Underwriting Supervisor

Come join Co-op’s underwriting management team in a supervisory position where you will use your analytical and creative muscles to help improve our underwriting operations.  In this role you will:

  • Perform underwriting file reviews across all personal, commercial, and farm lines, providing continuous feedback to staff and management regarding training needs; you will also plan, execute and champion that training
  • Participate with a team that will design performance metrics related to underwriting operations; incrementally implement and maintain a system for monitoring these performance metrics, including providing dashboard visibility to management and staff
  • Identify opportunities for both operational improvement and improvement of our book profiles
  • Manage department staffing including approving timesheets and PTO requests, monitoring work queues, identifying backlogs and transferring tasks as needed, and mentoring and sharpening staff prioritization skills
  • Create & facilitate systems that improve communication within underwriting
  • Participate in the underwriting authority escalation process, discussing new business and renewal risks with underwriters, and helping mentor and hone underwriter decision making skills

Do you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred (or work experience equivalent to such education) plus 7 to 10 years of property/casualty underwriting experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • In-depth knowledge of personal, commercial, and farm lines underwriting and products, or the ability to develop same
  • Previous management experience
  • Excellent research, analytical and decision-making skills
  • High degree of proven time management skills
  • Ability to influence peers and subordinates in a positive way
  • Oral, aural, and written communication, as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional commitment to customer service and the ability to instill the same in others
