Co-operative Insurance Companies is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team. We are looking for a relationship-focused underwriting professional with strong analytical skills and commercial lines experience. Candidates should be responsive, collaborative, and motivated to grow professionally while contributing to long-term company success.
This role partners closely with independent insurance agencies throughout Vermont and New Hampshire and handles diverse commercial accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite commercial insurance risks
- Analyze exposures and make sound underwriting decisions
- Build and maintain strong agency relationships
- Provide responsive service and underwriting support to agents
- Manage profitability and growth within an assigned agency force
- Apply underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements consistently
Qualifications
- Commercial lines underwriting experience is essential
- Candidates with 1–2 years of commercial lines underwriting experience are encouraged to apply
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and risk assessment skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of commercial insurance principles and underwriting practices
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Professional insurance designations such as CPCU or CIC are a plus
Due to business needs and the collaborative nature of the role, this position offers a hybrid/remote work arrangement. Candidates within commuting proximity to our underwriting territories of VT and NH are preferred. The pay range for this position is $60,349.00 – $93,524.00
